Taribo Wants Amaechi's Intervention On Eagles' Land

Published by Guardian on Sun, 30 Sep 2012

Super Eagles former centre-back, Taribo West, has called on the Rivers State Government to intervene in the alleged encroachment of plots of land given to the national team officials and players who qualified Nigeria for the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup.The plots of land were reportedly given to the team by the then Rivers State governor, Peter Odili, after the Eagles overcome stiff opposition from Ghana and Liberia to qualify for the Mundial for the third consecutive time.According to a document made available to The Guardian, the plots were allocated to 27 officials and players of the team at Trans Amadi Layout Phase 2 in Port Harcourt. The ex-player-turned pastor said it was embarrassing to learn that the plots of land donated to the players and officials, who made the country proud, were taken over by other people.'It's sad that some people have started developing the land given to us in 2002 by Odili, in recognition of our efforts in qualifying for the World Cup 10 years ago,' the former Inter Milan hard-as-nails defender said.'The present governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is equally a sports loving person who has always shown interest in the plight of our ex-footballers. I am appealing to him to help us recover our land.'Taribo, who had an illustrious career playing in Europe's biggest leagues, added that the team members had spent money to survey their plots and process other relevant documents for the proper acquisition of their land.
