Sunshine players call off strike

PLAYERS of Nigeria's sole surviving representative in the continental football, Sunshine Stars have called off a pay strike after they were paid half of their sign-on fees ahead their CAF Champions League semi-final game.The Akure-based side has returned to training ahead of Sunday's Champions League clash against Al Ahly of Egypt."We called off the strike on Saturday after we were paid 50 per cent of our sign-on fees of the past season. We have now got down to business ahead of our game against Al Ahly," a player confirmed to MTNFootball.com"It is true the strike has ended after we received half of our sign-on fees. I believe this will boost our morale ahead of Al Ahly clash,' added another player.The CAF Champions League campaigners have stayed away from training since Wednesday, September 19, as they pressed for the payment of their contract fees for last season, which ended on September 7.The Akure club will host seven-time champions Ahly on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode. Kick-off time is 3.00p.m local time.The return leg will be played in Cairo a fortnight later. The other semi-final is between champions Esperance from Tunisia against TP Mazembe from DR Congo.
