Yeboah backs Eagles to beat Lone Star 'Keshi 'll shame his critics 'Adejube

Published by Tribune on Tue, 02 Oct 2012

FORMER Black Stars striker, Anthony Yeboah has thrown his weight behind the Super Eagles to emerge victorious and book a slot in the finals of next year's Africa Nations Cup slated for South Africa.Nigeria failed to qualify for the last edition of the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and the former Leeds United striker believes Stephen Keshi and his troops will not disappoint Nigerian this time around. "I don't see Nigeria missing out of the Nations Cup party this time. I am convinced the Eagles will get it right and make it to South Africa," Yeboah said when he was in Abuja for a golf tournament."I think Nigeria and Ghana will both make the cut," he added.Yeboah, a member of Ghana's silver-medal winning team at the 1992 Nations Cup in Senegal, also pointed out how some powerhouses are struggling to qualify for the tournament."Years ago, an Africa Cup of Nations tournament without Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun and Egypt was incomplete," he said."But such is not the case anymore as some 'little' countries are now doing well. ''Football is now developing and played in many countries where it is a big business.''It is unfortunate that Nigeria and Ghana have slowed down in their football development efforts, giving other African countries the opportunity to take over from them in competitive football," Yeboah added. The Super Eagles host the Lone Star in Calabar on October 13 in the return leg of the final qualifier after both sides drew 2-2 in the corresponding fixture last month.Meanwhile,PLANS by some influential stakeholders to ease out Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi for a foreigner will never see the light of the day, retired FIFA badge referee Elder Dickson Adejube has said.According to reports, an underground scheme to ensure an expatriate tactician is appointed to boss Keshi has already commnenced, a move Adejube said is unfair to the ex international. In a telephone chat with Tribunesports, the former board member of the then Nigeria Football Association (NFA) stated. "If such plan is true, I think those who are behind it are ignorant of what rebuilding a team is all about.''So far, Keshi has been doing well with his rebuilding process. He should be given enough time to do his job. Did they know how long it took Clemence Westerhof to build a strong side and we know how long we enjoyed that squad.''I see no reason why he (Keshi) should not be allowed to do his job. I am very sure Nigeria will make it to the 2013 Nations Cup in South Africa and the team will perform excellently well.''He added.''Those who are working against Keshi are those who are losing because the system has changed., When a foreigner is appointed, they have their own share to get and they also bring in players who will also settle them.''Now that Keshi is in charge, they are being denied that and the fact that Keshi is making use of more home based players is also denying them of something,'' revealed the ex Ondo state FA chairman.''There is no way they will succeed with their antics and they will be put to shame at the end of the day,'' declared the chieftain of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA).
