Published by Tribune on Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Ondo gov defends women-friendly projectsOndo State governor, Dr OlusegunMimiko, has explained why he has been empowering the womenfolk in the state.According to the governor, women deserved special attention, owing to their pivotal role in nation building. He added that this accounted for the zeal with which he had been putting in place projects that would impact positively on their lives.Mimiko, who made the disclosure at Ijebu- Owo during his campaign tour of Owo Local Government Area, said that he would continue to build markets for the women and give them soft loans to trade because of their enormous contributions to the society.'Our women are the cornerstone of our development. We are aware of their pivotal roles and the great impact they make on the society and their roles in home building and contributions to the upbringing of our children.'If we help them, we are helping ourselves; we are helping our state and our country, because most of them are practically the bread winners of their families. Their efforts in ensuring that food is on the table for their families and that their children's school fees are paid are unquantifiable. You, our mothers, are nation builders, because from those little stalls that you trade, you do all these.'So, we will not only build more markets for you, but we will give you soft loans to trade with so that you can continue to assist our society,' Mimiko assured the women. The governor, at Ipele town, equally addressed the youth, especially students, on the need to vote for his government, saying that his struggle should naturally be theirs; owing to the quality of education they had been having in the state and at a very low tuition fee in the past three and a half years.Akeredolu assures Ondo people of good governanceThe gubernatorialcandidate of theAction Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, on Monday, assured the people of the state of responsible leadership if elected as the governor of the state. He said the government to be put in place by the ACN would be accountable to the people, adding that transparency would be his watchword.Akeredolu said this in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area of the state, while receiving some members of the ruling Labour Party (LP) that defected to the ACN.The defectors who were from different wards, included mostly Segun Ojo's political disciples, were led by Honourable Eniola Alaba Ajipe, who was his former Special Assistant in Adefarati's administration and a contestant to Ondo State House of Assembly in Owo Constituency 11 in 2011 polls.Others included Olajide Oluloro who was a former member of the Technical Board Committee during Chief Adebayo Adefarati's administration; Mr Modupe Ojo and Mr Oluwole Waibi, who was the Head of the Security Committee of Labour Party (LP) and Mr Dada Olubu, former Vice Chairman of LP in Emure /Uso ward.According to him, the five-point programme packaged by his team was put together to develop the various sectors of the society for the well being of the people of the state.Akeredolu explained that he would use the human and natural resources of the state for the economic development of the people, adding that the regional integration policy of the party would expand the socio-economic landscape of the state.Speaking at the rally, Modupe Ojo said the people Owo would vote massively for Akeredolu.Kano group drums up support for MimikoTHE electorate inOndo State havebeen told that the only way not to mortgage their future is to support Dr Olusegun Mimiko during the October 20 gubernatorial election, because his victory will ensure completion of laudable projects earlier started by his administration.According to the deputy president, Yoruba Community in Kano (YCK), Chief A. Agunbiade, dislodging the incumbent governor would drag the socio-economic situation in the state backward.Chief Agunbiade stated this while speaking with reporters in Kano, saying of all governorship candidates parading themselves in the stste, Mimiko was tested and trusted, going by human-friendly projects he had executed in the state. He said: 'We the people of Ondo State have to be cautious of any action that could be taken come October 20 when we would go to vote.'It will be a disservice to humanity not to vote for Dr Mimiko. If we did not vote for the incumbent governor, the affairs of Ondo State would be monitored in Lagos State.'The question is: should we sell our conscience and allow those few disgruntled elements to hijack the affairs of the Ondo people' The answer is to vote for Mimiko and nothing more.
