Mondo committed to African football, hails Lagos over Soccerex Seminar

Published by Guardian on Tue, 02 Oct 2012

MONDO Spa of Italy's representative at the just concluded two-day Soccerex Seminar in Lagos, George Hassan Osaile, has described the event as an important aspect of development in African football and thanked the Lagos State Government for its role in the seminar. The top official of Experience Sports Limited flew in from London to represent the sports facilities manufacturer, Mondo, at the seminar in Lagos. He said the event had further enlightened football administrators in the country and corporate organisations on the need to urgently invest in Nigerian football. The event, which featured the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, attracted notable figures like David Dein from England, France former international, Christian Karembeu, and Ghana's Anthony Baffoe. The Sodje Foundation and the Used Kits Foundation were among the not-for-profit organisations that featured at the seminar. According to Osaile, Nigerian football had been denied the vital contributions that Soccerex Lagos Seminar successfully brought to the fore.'This is the first time we will see such an event in Nigeria and it has given us the opportunity to see what we're doing wrongly in comparison with the European leagues,' Osaile said.'We should also not overlook the contribution of Lagos State in bringing this event to Nigeria. Soccerex has been to many countries where its impact cannot be denied, but it could have passed us by had Lagos State not brought it here.'The seminar, which was the first international football business event in Nigeria, provided learning and networking for the over 600 delegates and 40 brands that attended.
