Erosion: Powerline community wants Fashola's intervention

Residents and community leaders in Powerline in Gbagada area of Lagos have called on the state governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, to come to their aid by construting drainage to curb erosion and other environmental challenges facing the community.Community News learnt from some community leaders in the area that the little development in the community was as a result of efforts of the residents who were disturbed by degradation of the environment.Erosion and flooding had caused serious damage to the roads and that was causing mobility problem for the residents.Speaking on the poor state of social amenities in the area, Mr Gbenga Adebanjo told Community News that the people in the community, as responsible citizens, pay their taxes and other levies."We pay our tenement rates as at when due to show our commitment to the state government, but we are not getting anything from the state government. The only time they visited us was when they were asking for tenement rates." On our own, we contributed money to construct the drainage when the problem became unbearable. Commercial vehicles are avoiding the area and that is seriously affecting our mobility, hence we decided to do something,' he said.Mr Adebanjo called the state govenment to save the community from flooding which was making life difficult for the people.
