Cleric counsels against misuse of political power

Published by Tribune on Thu, 04 Oct 2012

AS the government closest to the grassroots, officials of the local governments in Nigeria have been warned against manipulations and maltreatment of the citizenry.Prophet Taiwo Idris of the Christ Revival Rain Mission International, Ogunrun-Mowe, Ogun State, handed down the warning during an interview at the premises of the church recently. The prophet, a welder and fabricator for many years before he was called by God in 1993, reminded politicians and political office holders that they were chosen by God to take care of their followers, warning that 'the owner of the power could withhold it if they misuse the power given them.'Prophet Idris, also enjoined the followers to be law abiding and cooperate with the people in the corridors of power by meeting minds with them from time to time. The cleric, who hosts one gospel musician at every Friday night vigil in the church, enjoined religious leaders to keep the covenant with God jealously.'My advice to religious leaders, especially fake prophets, is to remember that they will give account of their activities and the Bible wants us to prepare for heaven and to also remember that their reward is not here on earth,' Prophet Idris added.According to him, he was called by God last year (November 2011) to give thanksgiving through vigil in the church every Friday for a whole year, hence, his decision to invite gospel musicians every Friday.
