Ajetunmobi wins RON table tennis men's singles

PORTUGAL-BASED Seun Ajetunmobi of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has won the men's singles title of the fourth Reach Out Nigeria (RON) table tennis championship sponsoredby Christ Embassy in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.In a keenly contested game held at the Christ Embassy Church auditorium, Ajetunmobi defeated former junior champion, Ojo Onaolapo of Ondo State, by four sets to three (11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, and 13-11).By that victory, he earned the star prize of N400, 000, while Onaolapo pocketed N200,000, just as the NSCDC duo of Sola Oyetayo, who lost to Ajetunmobi, and Kazeem Makanjuola, who lost to Ojo in the semi-finals, shared thethird prize.In the women's singles, current All Africa Games gold medallist and Nigeria's number one women ping ponger, Edem Offiong of Cross River State, beat former junior champion, Fatima Kazeem of the Nigeria Police 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6.Forretaining her position, Offiong got N200,000, while Kazeem got N100,000. HalimatHussain of NSCDC, who lost to Offiong in the semi-final, as well as Janet Friday, who lost to Fatima Kazeem, jointly got the third prize of N50,000 apiece.In the women's doubles, the pair of Offiong Edem and Cecilia Otu beat H Hussain/Janet Friday. The joint third were A. Ofonime/Yetunde Thompson and Fatimo Bello/F. Kazeem.In the senior mixed doubles, Kazeem Makanjuola/Offiong Edem beatGbenga Anthony/Janet Friday, while the joint third were Kazeem Adedeji/Halimat Hussain and Seun Ajetunmobi/Cecilia Otu.
