Anambra FA, TEAP battle for Enyimba Feeders' NNL slot

Published by Guardian on Thu, 04 Oct 2012

ANAMBRA State Football Association and the Redeemed Christian Church of God-sponsored Abuja-based Nationwide League side, TEAP, are locked in a battle to win the Nigerian National League (NNL) slot of Enyimba Feeders' team, which recently gained promotion to the second tier competition. Also in the bid for the same slot is Road Safety FC of Abuja, which was relegated to the Nationwide League at the end of the 2011/2012 NNL season. The Guardian learnt that the management of Enyimba Feeders of Aba has decided to put the club's position at the NNL for sale, citing lack of cash to bankroll the club at the National League level. The management, it was learnt, was demanding the sum of N10 million from any interested buyer. The management, according to sources, has already decided to sell the slot to TEAP since that would give it the opportunity to swerve positions with the Abuja-based side, which is currently playing in the Nigeria Nationwide League. But plans to sell the club to the Abuja-based side in order to take over TEAP's position in NNWL may hit the rocks because the NNL might have objected to the plan, arguing that the sale might disrupt its plans to balance the two divisions, which have already been affected by the expulsion of Ocean Boys from the Nigeria Premier League (NPL).The Aba-based side, however, argues that the NNL cannot stop it from selling its slot to any buyer of choice, stressing that league organisers did not stop the same during the past season when the management of Nembe City from the South-South zone was allowed to buy the position of Kano-based Dalkat at the NNL.'Even though we have decided on who to sell to, we have received a lot of interests, but we are being careful in choosing the eventual buyer,' an official of Enyimba said. 'We have also continued to consult with officials of both the Nigeria Nationwide League and the Nigeria National League.
