Nigerians shouldn't take chances with their health, experts advise

MEDICAL experts have warned Nigerians against taking chances with their health, urging them to ensure total protection of their lives by subjecting themselves to a regular comprehensive medical checkup, locally and internationally.The experts at Scope Health Care System, Ogun State, noted that lack of comprehensive checkup to determine any threat to one's healthy living could lead to a life-threatening emergency that could worsen the situation of the patient, especially when the case such patient is presented with, is wrongly handled.They added that during medical emergency, the manner with which the patient is handled determines his survival chances and ability to live a normal life after the ailment.According to the Country Head, Indian for Scope, Dr. Harinder Singh, immediate response to patients with medical emergency or victims of auto accident would improve the patients' health, while delay and poor handling of such patients could worsen the patients' health to hamper pre-emergency situation.He noted that SCOPE is focusing on bridging the gap between healthcare service delivery in Nigeria and India to ensure immediate response to medical emergencies. 'We are fully prepared to handle cases that would be presented to us, as we have able hands and professionals to arrest any situation. This is what we want to see happen in Nigeria.'The Scope's chief executive officer, Nigeria, Jide Bunmi-Nathan, said there is urgent need to stop employees from dropping dead in the work place, while discharging their official duties or living with deteriorating health conditions, such as stroke, diabetes and hypertension among others, by improving emergency services, through comprehensive medical checkup to nip all threats in the bud.Warning against stress among workers in Nigeria, which has resulted into loss of lives, especially among bank executives and other officers, he urged executives and worker who embark on job-related trips abroad to always avail themselves the opportunity of accessing good medical treatment and checkup in their host country, while Nigerian health facilities improve.Bunmi-Nathan stated that there are a number of good and affordable medical services run within and outside the country at the best and affordable hospitals. 'We will not fold or hands and allow our executives die again. This investment was engendered by the passion to ensure that no workers, especially CEOs, die again while performing their functions.'He said: 'At Scope, we prepare patients for overseas trips for medical checkup at affordable prices. These services are rendered in Israel, Germany, India, Dubai, the United Kingdom (UK) and other good hospitals in Nigeria, among others. Services include management of diabetes, kidney problems, cancer of all kinds, heart diseases, arthritis, IVF and comprehensive medical check-up.
