Flood: Lions Club asks branches to help victims

Published by Tribune on Fri, 05 Oct 2012

The Lions Club International has directed all its local branches in Nigeria to respond quickly to victims of flood and other disasters in all parts of the country. The Vice Governor, Lions Club, District 404A, Mr. Tokunbo Jegede, said this in Akure, Ondo State, at the investiture of Prince Ade Omesehin as the 26th President of Akure Owena Lions Club in Akure.According to him, being an organisation that is concerned with service to humanity, the international leadership of the club had asked branches to rise to the needs of the victims of the natural disasters. To this end, he said the club had been involved in donating various relief materials for flood victims in Kogi, Plateau, and other parts of the country as parts of its services.Delivering a lecture at the event, the Ondo State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sola Ebiseni, urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of donating towards humanitarian services and the development of the various communities in the country. In the paper entitled; 'service to humanity: the African perspective,' he observed that Nigerians were yet to imbibe the spirit of donating towards humanitarian services or contributing to organisations which have little or no profit.Ebiseni said although the idea of humanitarianism was embraced in Africa, much attention had not been given to it.Some personalities honoured at the occasion included a former governorship aspirant of the ACN. Mr. Olayato Aribo; chairman of the state Joint Negotiating council, Mr. Solomon Adelegan; an industrialist, Mr. Nelson Omoyoloye; the Regent of Apoi, Princess Joyce Oladiran-Ebiseni, among others.
