You can either make a positive impression or a negative impression. First impressions can last a lifetime but can change in due course of time. Having said that, good first impressions can only take you so far; if you are found to be inconsistent, people will believe that you were only pretending to be something that you obviously aren't. On the other hand, if you have made a bad first impression, just counter that experience with only positive actions. The consistency of the positives would become the prevailing factor. The bad first impression would seem like a bad moment in time and may be forgotten and all together forgiven. The following are a few strategies that can help you make a good impression:Eye contact: This is a form of acknowledgement and holding a person's gaze shows that, that person has your undivided attention.' Facial/Mouth Expression: Smile, it is the best greeting and welcome you can offer a person.' Hands: Shake hands with sincerity; learn to do so with ease.' Body angle/Body posture: Do not keep your hands folded in front of you; maintain an open body posture. Make certain your body isn't slanted away from the person you are speaking to.' Proximity: Do not be too close for comfort or too faraway. Maintain a respectful distance from the person you're speaking to' Use names ' People's names are important to them, and it is an added advantage when you mention their name now and then in your conversation. The personal attention will be appreciated.' Show enthusiasm while greeting ' you too would like to know that your presence brings a cheerful vibe.' Be gracious ' Think of it this way: how will you honor a guest in your home' Be gracious.Personal GroomingGrooming encompasses all aspects of a person's physical appearance as well as the way he/she presents himself/herself.
