NGO rolls out breast helplines for cancer patients

In line with its determination to improve breast awareness and reduce the incidence of breast cancer in Nigeria, a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation, Sebeccly Cancer Care and Support Centre (SCCSC), is rolling out three breast helplines during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.According to Oluwatosin Oyekanmi, Senior Programme Officer of SCCSC, the breast helplines would provide up to date breast health information to people who require information, three trained information specialists with counseling skills and indepth knowledge of breast health and breast cancer issues will operate the lines between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from the 1st to the 31 of October.The breast helpline numbers are: 0810-205-6467,0810-325-8756, 0817-579-8815.'Callers are encouraged to call and make inquiries, walk in to our centre for a free breast examination and if any abnormalities are detected, prompt referral to an accredited hospital is instituted.' Breast cancer information is central to our work, we strive to create awareness on early detection of breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship whilst advocating for improved treatment options in Nigeria''This year, we hope to target 1,000 women and refer them to the appropriate health care providers. We look forward to improving breast awareness and breast cancer reduction,' Oyekanmi said
