AHMED Jibrin of Zaria Golf Clubover the weekend played 145 gross to emerge champion of the 2012 Jaji Open Golf competition sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc.The tourney decided on Sunday at the Jaji Golf Club, Kaduna, saw Abdulsalam Shehu (also of Zaria Golf Club) make146 gross to win the second place, while for the best nett, J. Sunday from Rhino Golf Club, Jos, got 140 to pick the prize, while Sunday Ishaku of Kaduna Golf Club was runner-up.Rachael Danjuma of Kano Golf Club snatched the top prize in the ladies' category, while Amina Wilfred was runner-up gross. Habiba Ibrahim won the best nett, while M. Saleh of Bauchi was runner-up nett.Former Commandant of the AFCSC, AVM A.R. Ejeh, was among those presented with prizes in the veterans' category after finishing runner-up with 148 nett. The winner of that category was Maj.-Gen. A.C. Akoju with 166 gross. Audu John grossed 173 to emerge runner-up, while Frank Onotu, with 143 nett, won the best nett.In the special prizes category, Col. Israel Akpan won the nearest-to-the-pin on hole 9, longest drive on hole six was picked by Corporal Timothy Ogbe and Maj.-Gen. Usara was adequately rewarded after winning the hole-in-one on the NB Plc hole 7.In his remarks, captain of Jaji Golf Club, Navy Capt. H.D. Zakariya,commended NB for its continuous sponsorship of the tourney, saying: 'NB Plc has helped us to improve the club as well as its members. We are overwhelmed with the turnout, which goes a long way in showing that Jaji is here to stay.'The two-day tourney attracted 124 golfers from 26 clubs, who played 36 holes over the two days. Out of the number, only 19 were female.
