I missed Oboabuna against Al Ahly 'Ogunbote

Published by Tribune on Wed, 10 Oct 2012

SUNSHINE Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has confessed that he missed his captain Godfrey Oboabuna in the first leg of the Caf Champions League semi final game against Al Ahly last Satruday.Oboabuna missed the game due to card suspension as the match ended 3-3 with the Akure side coming back twice to earn a draw.Ogunbote told Goal.com after the match that his captain would have added more steel to the defence and gingered the other players to give their best in spite of the problems they encountered before the match."I must say that I missed Godfrey Oboabuna in this game against Ahly. He has a way of motivating the players in every game," said Ogunbote."He would also have added strength to the defence line. Then he can also take free kicks. But because of two yellow cards, he could not play against Ahly."I want to say that he was greatly missed. His calmness in the defence has a way of encouraging other players. I am sure that if he had played, we would not have conceded three goals in that match."But I am happy he will be available for the second leg in Cairo. The Super Eagles game against Liberia would have been played and he will have enough time to train with us," he added."So we are going to Cairo with our full strength for the second leg and anything can happen," Ogunbote said. The second leg comes up in three weeks time in Cairo where the winner will take on either TP Mazembe or Esperance in the final of the competition.
