Published by Tribune on Wed, 10 Oct 2012

IFE-Olukotun community in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State has been urged to sustain peace and unity existing among the people. The Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, stated this at Ife-Olukotun during the 2012 Ife-Olukotun Day celebration and N500 million infrastructural development appeal fund, saying development could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. The governor, represented by the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Ndamadu Ali, assured the people that infrastructure in the community would be given adequate attention. He said the government would resuscitate the moribund dam and renovate dilapidated schools and health centre in the community, saying that government had already approved the renovation of schools across the state and that the community will be the first to be attended to.Earlier, the chairman, Ife-Olukotun Decendat Union, Deacon John Funsho Tehinse, had sought government intervention in the area of power supply, hospitals and schools in the area as they lacked adequate infrastructure and were under-staffed.While commending the state government for the road construction and repair of the dam, Deacon John said more needed to be done on them as the road needed to be asphalted, while access to water from the dam was still not possible.According to him, the Ife-Olukotun Day celebration was to appreciate God who has restored peace and unity which had eluded the community in the past as well as marking the beginning of the process of rebuilding community projects which had deteriorated over time.He added that the fund would assist the community in renovating and upgrading community schools, provide facilities for vocational training, construction of modern palace for the traditional ruler, among others.Highlight of the celebration was the conferment of chieftancy title of Abanitanse of Ife- Olukotun on former governor Ibrahim Idris of Kogi State for his developmental efforts in the area during his tenure.
