4 Players Juventus Should Target from Euro 2016

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 06 Jul 2016

Good performances at traditional summer tournaments have often led to big-money transfers for players, and UEFA Euro 2016 is expected to do just the same.Once the competition comes to an end following Sundays final, many of its stars are widely tipped to become hot property for clubs looking to improve their squads before domestic football returns.Juventus, who have seen some of their own players shine in France, are no exception, and the Italian champions are expected to bolster the options available to coach Massimiliano Allegri in the coming weeks.Anyone who arrives will join the Azzurri core of this Juve side, which will feature the impressive back line of Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini once again. Behind them, Gigi Buffonwhose own form at Euro 2016 was discussed in this previous postcontinues to go from strength to strength. What follows is a closer look at four players who have been similarly impressive and could become transfer targets for the Bianconeri before the Serie A summer window closes on August 31, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each option.Mattia De SciglioMattia De Sciglio of AC Milan might not have been writing headlines this summer, but he was nevertheless an important part of Antonio Contes tactical plan for Italy. The coach used the versatile wing-back to great effect on both flanks in his 3-5-2 formation, and the 23-year-old did not disappoint. His performances certainly attracted attention, with El Mundo Deportivo and Tuttosport linking Barcelona and Juventus with a move for him (h/t Football Italia). They note that the Rossoneri recently rejected a 15 million (12.8 million) bid from Napoli for De Sciglio, but the Old Lady has long been an admirer. It was Allegri who gave the player his Milan debut back in September 2011, and Telelombardia (h/t Football Italia) believed the two clubs contemplated swapping De Sciglio for Martin Caceres back in January.According to WhoScored.com, he averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.8 clearances per game for Italy this summer, particularly impressing in the victory over Spain and looking like he could be a fine addition to the Juventus defence.Dimitri PayetThis week, Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia) noted that Juventus were among a number of clubs looking to trigger Leicester Citys 25 million (21.3 million) release clause for NGolo Kante, believing the Bianconeri were continuing their search for midfield reinforcements.Yet despite the France internationals impressive form for club and country, the presence of Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, Stefano Sturaro and Mario Lemina means the Old Lady has plenty of cover when it comes to shielding players. What she desperately needs is creativity, and no player has brought more spark and invention to his side this summer than Kantes international team-mate Dimitri Payet. There have been no real links between the player and club, but if the Italian champions wanted an instant influx of attacking prowess, they should look no further than the West Ham United star.In five appearances at Euro 2016, the 29-year-old has weighed in with three goals and two assists, thriving under former Juve midfielder Didier Deschamps and powering the hosts run to the semi-finals.His prowess at set pieces needs little introduction after a superb campaign in the Premier League andwith the London club admitting they face a hard task to retain him this summerPayet would be a fine addition to Allegris squad. We want to improve our squad and Dimitri is an integral part of what were trying to do. But we also must be realistic, West Ham co-owner David Gold told Justin Allen of the Sun. If Barcelona or Real Madrid made a bid and he wanted to move there, it would be difficult to keep him.Expected to fetch a fee of around 45 million (52.7 million), a bid for Payet might be beyond the financial reach of the Bianconeri, but there is little doubting his quality after a summer of impressive displays for Les Bleus.Eden HazardMuch like Payet, Juventus have not been linked with Eden Hazard, who may also command an asking price that proves too rich for the Italian champions. The Chelsea winger has not been quite as impressive as the France star, but he underlined his qualities with a superb showing in the demolition of Hungary. This was his best game ever for Belgium, Belgium football expert John Chapman wrote in his ESPN FC column. He ran the Hungarian defence ragged and was excellent in the first half but breath-taking after the breakunstoppable.Having laid on one goal for Michy Batshuayi, Hazard then scored himself, tearing through the opposition defence before firing a powerful low shot beyond 40-year-old goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly. It showed that the Belgium international is still capable of dazzling displays, shrugging off a desperately poor 2015/16 season with Chelsea that saw him net just four Premier League goals in 31 appearances.Should new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte continue with the 3-5-2 formation that he has deployed to great effect with Juventus and Italy, it may well be that the 25-year-old finds himself surplus to requirements, and he could certainly fit in at the coachs former club. There he would allow Allegri to alternate styles, filling in behind the strikers in a 4-3-1-2 framework or out wide in a 4-3-3 that the former Milan boss has often used in the past but has yet to fully implement in Turin.Alvaro MorataIts that man again. Alvaro Moratareturned to Real Madridlast month, with the Spanish club announcing the deal to little fanfare on their official website. It was confirmation that they had exercised anoption to re-sign the 23-year-old that had been inserted in the initial agreement taking him to Juventus in 2014.The official Bianconeri website stated that price would be "a maximum of 30 million at the time, and the deal has left the Old Lady looking short of quality in attack, with few in Turin doubting his ability to succeed.Morata is potentially a player who could become one of the top two or three in the world in a few years, Juventus captain Gigi Buffon told Marca (h/t Football Italia) last September, a belief that the player certainly seemed to emphasise at Euro 2016.Having already proved his value with a string of superb performances in the UEFA Champions League, Morata netted three times in the group stage this summer and became the striker Spain need moving forward.Netting twice against Turkey and once against Croatia, Morata drew a blank when facing Italy, with former Juve team-mates Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellinithe "BBCnullifying his prowess in a ruthlessly efficient manner.Buffon is so strong in the one-on-one situations. Like Iker Casillas, he is a legend of world football, Morata told Marca before the game (h/t Football Italia). The BBC guys are the best defenders in the world and opposition teams dont want to play against them. When those three and Buffon are back there, it is almost impossible to score past them, he added. If you cant beat them, why not (re)join them
