Nigerians have been watching TV since forever. It started with local shows down to the foreign ones, we watched them all. Before the advent of Zee World and Telemundo, we watched the telenovelas and followed up on the stories.Telenovelas are different from US-style soap opera in that they rarely continue for more than a year. This makes them shorter than soap opera, but still much longer than serialsIt was such an addiction that we even bought books that summarised the episodes for times when we missed the episodes due to NEPA or something. Good old days! Here are some of the amazing telenovelas that kept us glued to our seats then.1. Secrets of the SandSecrets of the Sand was Brazillian and was originally released in 1993. It told the story of twin sisters, Ruth and Rachel. A rich man falls in love with Ruth who truly loves him too, but he gets involved with Rachel, who's after his wealth.2.When You Are MineWhen You Are Mine orCuando seas ma was a Mexican telenovela that was originally released between 2001 and 2002 but aired in Nigeria between 2005-2006. It featured Silvia Navarroas Teresa Suarez or Paloma and Sergio BasaezasDiego Sanchez-Serrano 3. PassionsPassions is an American soap opera which follows the lives and loves, and various romantic and paranormal adventures of the residents of Harmony. The story-lines center on the interactions among members of its multi-racial core families.4. Catalina and SebastianRemember Catalina and Sebastian' Portrayed by the same duo in When You Are Mine' Yeah. Same guys. Sebastian, a rich heir fell in love with Catalina, a simple girl with an opportunist mother and brother. 5. The Gardener's DaughterUndoubtedly one of our favorites because we could stare at Carlos Eduardo's face all day and even more at Louisa Fernanda's smile.6. The Second ChanceThis one had us waiting for the next episode all the time. Imagine what happens when rich man, Pedro Jose Do Noso comes back as Salvador Cerinza' Just out of this world honestly.
