Tyrek Coger, Oklahoma State Basketball Player, Dies at Age 21

Oklahoma State forward Tyrek Coger died Thursday at the age of 21 following a collapse after a team workout.The Cowboys announced the news and included comments from head coach Brad Underwood: "Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy. Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through."Coger was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m. CT at Stillwater Medical Center. He played for Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina, last season, per Oklahoma State's announcement.Coger had just arrived on Oklahoma State's campus July 5. He was from Raleigh, North Carolina, and was a 3-star recruit from the class of 2013 out of Upper Room Christian Academy, per 247Sports.News On 6 Tulsa sports anchor Charlie Hannema reported Oklahoma State will hold a press conference on Friday at 11 a.m. CT regarding Coger's death.
