Manchester United Transfer News: Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj, Fresh Rumours

Published by Bleacher Report on Mon, 01 Aug 2016

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has confirmed that he is interested in signingMarouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj for Sunderland following his appointment as the new boss at the Stadium of Light.Per MailOnline's Craig Hope, United duo Fellaini and Januzaj have both been linked with the Black Cats since Moyes' appointment as manager, and the Scot has now confirmed he would like to sign the pair: "If any of those good players want to join me I'd be happy to have them. They're excellent players. We're interested, but I'm sure there's a load of other clubs that are as well."Fellaini, 28, played under Moyes previously at both Everton and United, while Januzaj, 21, was handed his full Red Devils debut by the 53-year-old back in 2013.It is likely that they will both be on the fringes of manager Jose Mourinho's squad in the upcoming season, with Fellaini set to be further marginalised if and when Paul Pogba is signed from Juventus, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:Neither Fellaini nor Januzaj have enjoyed a great deal of success recently at Old Trafford. The emergence of the then-teenaged Januzaj was one of the few bright spots in Moyes' dismal 10-month spell in charge at United. However, the 21-year-old Belgian's progress has stalled dramatically in the last two seasons as he has failed to earn a first-team spot and endured a frustratingloan spellat Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the 2015-16 season.Fellaini, meanwhile, has never really found his feet at United while forming a fractious relationship with the fans, and he may relish the chance to reunite with Moyes, under whom he enjoyed the best form of his career at Everton.United will likely be eager to recoup as much as possible of the 27.5 million they spent on Fellaini if they are to let him go, while the Manchester outfit may not wish to see Januzaj, who remains an exciting prospect, depart permanently.ESPN's Alex Shaw outlined a scenario that could benefit all those involved:Mourinho has made three significant signings since he was appointed as Louis van Gaal's successor, bringing in centre-back Eric Bailly, playmakerHenrikh Mkhitaryan and strikerZlatan Ibrahimovic, and heis seemingly edging ever closer to snapping up Pogba, per Sky Sports News HQ'sAndy Burton. He is now expected to turn his attention to trimming down his squad, with a number of current United players set to be moved on, perMike McGrathin theSun.Historically, Mourinho likes to operate with a small squad, and Fellaini and Januzaj are both expendable players as neither have a defined role in the current setup. It seems likely, then, that the Portuguese manager will sanction the departures of the Belgian duo, and given Moyes' previous connection with the club, Sunderland could be in pole position to snap them up.
