Beltre Ties Ruth for 43rd Place on All-Time Hits List

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre recorded the 2,873rd hit of his major league career during Sunday's 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals, moving into a tie with Babe Ruth for 43rd place on the all-time hits list, per ESPN Stats & Info.Beltre otherwise had a rather ordinary day, with just a fourth-inning single in four at-bats, though he did spark a two-run rally that left the Rangers with a commanding 4-1 lead.While not quite at his peak form, the 37-year-old has remained productive in his 19th MLB season, putting up 16 home runs, 65 RBI and 54 runs in 99 games, with a .279 batting average, .333 on-base percentage and .455 slugging percentage.Beltre is also still playing an excellent third base, which has arguably been his most consistent asset throughout a lengthy professional career.Assuming he plays beyond this year and avoids any catastrophic injuries, Beltre shouldn't have much trouble joining the 3,000-hit club at some point next season.Given that he signed a two-year, $36 million extension in April, it would appear Beltre hopes to play at least two more seasons, having aged much more gracefully than the average player.Already boasting a strong Hall of Fame argument, he should become a lock if he's even somewhat productive through 2017 or 2018.
