Resident Doctors Suspend Strike In Kano

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), has suspended her strike due , what the association termed the sincere and unrelenting nature of President Muhammad in Buhari, Speaker House of Representative, Yakubu Dogara in finding lasting solutions to the issues bedevilling the sector.This position was presented during a media paryley held at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), the President NARD, Kano chapter, Dr. Muhammad Adamu Askira said that though the Residency Training Program committee has started sitting, the final report is yet to be released.Dr. Askira noted that some of their demands were not met but resolved to end the strike action to allow new ways for negotiations between the hospital, Federal government and the striking doctors.He also said that their demands were about the unfair sacking of some Resident doctors in JUTH and ABUTH, and colleagues in the State who are yet to benefit from the bailout intervention which was earlier negotiated with the Speaker.They however resolves at the NEC meeting between July 25th to 30th held at Keffi, Nassarawa State that they first appreciated Mr. President and the Speaker interventions which was geared towards resolving all the thorny issues.It also resolved that State governments pay salaries of their doctors, Osun government should fulfill the agreement with Lautech Osobo and for RTP to committee to fast track release of the agreements reached for implementation.Fielding questions from journalists on what was their commitment to the ethics of their profession, Dr. Askira said that their commitment to patriotism was that they refused to move to another nations with higher payments for doctors like them.He also emphasised that only timely payment of salaries and motivation would only make members work diligently and stop thinking of moving countries like USA, UK among others.
