One man turned his Tesla into a giant 'Pokmon GO' machine

Published by Business Insider on Tue, 02 Aug 2016

In what could be the most 2016 move of the year, ahacker managed to get the "Pokmon GO" app on his Tesla's 17-inch touchscreen.Jeff, an editor for Pink Java Media, was able to complete the hacking using "some old-fashioned ingenuity, and an ethernet cable," as Electrek first spotted. The touchscreen's display cuts off part of the app, but that didn't stop Jeff from going after aRattata. The hack lets Jeff drive his Tesla to locations wherePokmon have been spotted and easily catch them on his giant screen. Except there is one minor problem: he can only catch thePokmon when the car is in reverse since the only camera is in the back bumper.'It makes for quite a challenge,' Jeff told Pink Java Media. 'I almost backed over a Rattata!'Tesla CEO Elon Musk is no stranger to the idea of using Teslas to findPokmon. When describing his planto make a car-sharing service using autonomous Teslas at the Gigafactory grand opening, a member in the audience asked if it could be used to play "Pokmon GO.""It will findPokmon for you, absolutely, of course," Musk said, laughing.Join the conversation about this storyNOW WATCH: 6 'Pokmon GO' tips only power users know about
