Mario Edwards Injury: Updates on Raiders DE's Leg and Return

Oakland Raiders defensive end Mario Edwards suffered a leg injury during the team's preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals.Continue for updates.Edwards Carted Off The FieldFriday, Aug. 12Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Edwards initially walked off the field after sustaining the injury, but was later carted to the locker room from the sidelines.The extent of the injury was not immediately disclosed.Edwards, 22, is coming off a solid, if unspectacular, rookie season for the Raiders, registering 42 tackles, 2.0 sacks and three forced fumbles. He certainly showed his potential against the Minnesota Vikings in November, notching 11 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.The hope for the second-year player out of Florida State is that he can continue to develop as an impact player alongside budding superstar Khalil Mack and pass-rushing specialist Bruce Irvin. Edwards grew throughout his rookie season as a dynamic and versatile defensive lineman who was both solid against the run and a capable pass-rusher.Injuries are becoming a concern for Edwards, however, as his 2015 campaign was cut short in Week 15 after he suffered what was reported to be potentially a career-threatening neck injury. Thankfully, Edwards was able to undergo a full recovery.The team will be hoping this latest setback isn't an indication that Edwards will be injury-prone throughout his career.With Edwards sidelined,Denico Autry andJihad Wardwill be called upon to play an even bigger role for the team on the defensive line.
