Published by Leadership on Sun, 14 Aug 2016

A coalition of civil society groups under the aegis of Peace Ambassadors Initiative of Nigeria (PAIN) have asked Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to step aside to save the people of the state from growing tension and anxiety. The group in statement said that there was no doubt that the continued stay of Ikpeazu in office after the judgement setting aside his election has needlessly inflicted immeasurable tension and anxiety on the people of the state. The statement signed by Joshua Okechukwu and Barrister Blessing Asezuwa, National Coordinator and Director of Publicity of PAIN respectively noted that Ikeazu knows that in the eye of the law of the land he stood disqualified as governor of the state. The group noted that Ikeazu is desperate to hang on to State House as governor, spending the budget of Abia State, in the full knowledge that every day he spends in office is a bonus awaiting his final day.The group said that Ikeazu as a master in the art of filibustering, has for over a year, used every delay tactics to circumvent the due course of the law, in seeking to thwart the trial of his case, even getting as far as the Supreme Court in his pursuit.According to the group, unfortunately for him and fortunately for the rest of us, we are operating a democracy where rule of law is supreme. The group urged the governor to spare the people of Abia State and indeed Igboland this tension and anxiety he has needlessly and unnecessarily inflicted on our people.
