Usain Bolt of Jamaica made history Sunday, winning his third consecutive gold medal in the men's 100-meter dash at the 2016 Summer Olympics.Bolt erased the field once again, coming from behind to cross the finish line first in a time of 9.81 seconds. The season-best time eliminated any concerns about the hamstring strain that might have been plaguing the 29-year-old as he headed to Rio de Janeiro.Justin Gatlin of the United States was the last man to claim gold before Bolt, back in Athens in 2004. He had recorded the two fastest times in the world in 2016 and charged out with a fast start on Sunday, but he settled for silver with a time of 9.89 seconds.Andre De Grasse of Canada edged out the rest of the field for the bronze. The 21-year-old ran a personal best of 9.91 seconds thanks to a perfectly timed dip at the finish line and sets himself up as part of the next elite generation of sprinters.Also on the track on Sunday at Olympic Stadium, Wayde van Niekerk of South Africa erased a 17-year-old world record when he eclipsed Michael Johnson's mark in the men's 400-meter race, finishing in a world record time of 43.03 seconds.
