Published by Leadership on Mon, 15 Aug 2016

The Enugu State House of Assembly has urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to be more proactive in its job to ensure proper security of lives and property. The Chairman of the assembly committee on security, youths and sports, Mr Nelson Uduji, made the call on Monday when its members visited the state command of the corps to ascertain its challenges, especially in the area of security.Uduji urged the commandant to engage the people of the state during recruitments so that they would be part of the system. The chairman pledged the readiness of the legislature to partner with the corps in the course of their job.In his remarks, the Commandant of the corps, Mr Steve Amoga, said that their primary function was to arrest and prosecute vandals of government property and installations. The state command of the NSCDC is known for uprightness in the security of lives and property. It is in line with this that our members are scattered in all the 17 local government areas of the state to ensure proper security. We have not done any employment since 2011, what we did was the replacement of retirees and dead personnel, he said.Amoga appealed to the assembly to assist the corps in the provision of working facilities to enable them to do their work more effectively. The commandant said that the command had 400 personnel trained in arms handling to ensure a conducive environment for the people of the state.
