Medal Count 2016 Olympics: Monday Results, Standings and Latest Reaction

The dust is still settling after Usain Bolt etched his name further into the record books with a third successive gold in the 100-metre sprint on Sunday, but Monday brings a fresh assortment of sporting spectacles at the Rio 2016 Olympics.In the indoor events, we'll see no fewer than three medal finals take place in the gymnastics, where the men's vault and rings finals feature before United States star Simone Biles competes in the women's balance beam final.Elsewhere, two more gold medals are up for grabs in the track and field events, and the women's hammer throw precedes what promises to be a tense climax in the women's 3,000-metre steeplechase.We take a look at the current overall medal table before previewing some of Monday's biggest events. The United States maintain their grip on the standings as we head into Rio 2016's home stretch.Here's how the standings look after Monday's results:Visit theofficial Rio 2016 websitefor a look at the updated medal table in full.Gymnastics DramaTwo men's finals will take place on Monday evening, with Brazil'sArthur Zanetti hoping to defend his Olympic gold medal in the rings before attention turns to the vault, where Russia and Ukraine make up half the start list.Sport Illustrated's OlympicsTwitter feed recently testified to Zanetti starting his rings buildup in good form, laying the foundation for a potential second successive Olympics gold:He'll need to overcome the challenges of Chinese pair LiuYangandYou Haoin a heady field of competition, but Zanetti, 26, has shown he's got the means to once again take the top spot on the podium.Later on Monday, Biles will look to build on the three gold medals she's already claimed in Rio de Janeiro, and NBC Olympics showed the 19-year-old's balance beam quality is in very promising shape:The teenager was superb in this field during the all-around event, but now comes the time for the young American to strut her stuff individually, and she'll need to beat team-mate Laurie Hernandez if she's to do so.In the men's vault,Igor Radivilov andOleg Verniaiev of Ukraine will go up against the Russian pair ofDenis Ablyazin andNikita Nagornyy in search of gold, making up half the final among them. NBC presenter Samantha Peszek has hyped upRadivilov in particular after he took bronze in this event at London 2012:Track and Field FinalsThe men's 100-metre sprint may be out of the way, but there is a healthy array of track and field tension still to come in Brazil this week.Chief among the field events on Monday is the women's hammer throw final, whereAnita Wlodarczyk is looking to build on an already gargantuanqualifyingscore of 76.93 metres, a feat in itself, per European Athletics:The Polish contender threw more than three metres longer than any other athlete in qualifying, andWlodarczyk now has to see out her assault and complete a run to the podium.Bahrain's Ruth Jebet is in a similar boat in the women's 3,000-metre steeplechase final after easing her way to top place in the qualifier, per FloTrack:A time of nine minutes and12.62seconds put the Kenyan-born runner almost five seconds clear of any other competitor, and it could be a race for second place if she's able to replicate that display on Monday.Jebet, 19, could be a major figure in this event for years to come given her start to life among the elite, building on a victory at the 2014 World Junior Championships with a thus-far promising Olympic debut.
