Shettima Hails Japanese Govt Over $3m North-East Fund

Published by Leadership on Tue, 16 Aug 2016

Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima has appreciated Japanese government for funding $3 million projects in the three North Eastern states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe onlivelihood support, social cohesion, de-radicalisation, counter terrorism and migration.Shettima made his feelings known while lunching the project at government house Maiduguri yesterday. He said Japanese Government under two different regimes had shown kindness and interest in supporting Borno State in good times and tough times, adding that the Japanese Government has invested heavily on rural electrification in Damasak headquarters of Mobbar local government area in northern part of Borno State which was commissioned by then President Olusegun Obasanjo. twelve years after that key intervention in Damasak, the Japanese Government ishere again. This time around, they are supporting at a moment of distress. In effect, the Japanese Government helped Borno when there was no crisis; they are here to help at a time of crisis. What more empathy can we seek from the Japanese Government. What is more pleasing about the Japanese intervention this time around, is the cheering fact that this support is being extended notonly to Bono State but also to our very hospitable sister States of Adamawa and Yobe who have had fair share of the unfortunate Boko Haram crisis. The choice of the Japanese Government to focus on Early Recovery and Social cohesion; De-Radicalisation and Counter Terrorism as well as migration is no doubt well thought out.
