Olympic 2016 Results: Wednesday's Live Updating Medal Count and Standings

Published by Bleacher Report on Wed, 17 Aug 2016

The action was all over the place on Day 11 at the 2016 Summer Olympics with winners coming from seemingly every corner of the globe.Over 10 different countries won gold medals in 12 different sports and 22 events, giving plenty of fans a lot to cheer about Tuesday. Of course, the United States earned two on its own to add to its lead in the medal count, which continued through the early action Wednesday. Here is a look at the latest standings as of Day 12 in Rio:Simone Biles competed in her first Olympics this summer but she is already one of the greatest ever in the sport. The gymnast kicked off the week by leading the United States to an easy win in the team competition, following that up with a gold medal in the individual all-around. It turns out she was just getting started.Tuesday featured the final gymnastics events of the Olympics and Biles took gold once again in the floor exercises, ending her run with four golds and a bronze."Shes crazy," teammate Aly Raisman said of Biles, per Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times. "I cant believe that she has four gold medals. Its amazing. Its hard to put into words. I dont even consider myself competing against her. Its like shes on another level. Shes incredible. Im in awe watching her, and Ive trained with her so long."Without Biles competing, Raisman might have been the story of the Olympics after finishing with silver medals in both the individual all-around and floor event. Still, it's hard to argue with the performance of Biles:Interestingly, this wasn't the only event that saw the United States place first and second. The men's triple jump saw the same finish as Christian Taylor and Will Claye took home the gold and silver for the USA.Claye actually ended up with an even better day as he proposed to his girlfriend after the event:It will certainly be a day both of them remember for a long time. The athletics stadium featured a few more interesting results, including Omar McLeod of Jamaica taking home the gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles. Oregon football player Devon Allen advanced to the finals but ended up in fifth place with a time of 13:31 seconds, 0.07 seconds off the medal stand.Although it was a disappointing finish, it still has been quite a summer for the star receiver.American Erik Kynard was likely even more upset about how his night ended in the high jump. He won a silver medal in London but could only manage sixth this time around. It might not have mattered anyway as everyone was competing for second place behind Canadian Derek Drouin, who didn't miss a single jump until he already clinched a gold medal. His only misstep came on his only try at the Olympic record, but he was probably already thinking of his time on the podium.Armenia won its first gold of the summer as wrestler Artur Aleksanyan won the 98 kg Greco-Roman tournament, while Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine won the first gold for his country on the parallel bars. There was plenty of variety throughout the day and that should continue on Day 12 with finals in badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, equestrian, sailing, table tennis, taekwondo, track and field and wrestling.Follow Rob Goldberg on Twitter for year-round sports analysis.
