Olympic 2016 Medal Count: Wednesday's Latest Nation Rankings and Standings

The United States consolidated their place at the top of the medals table at the 2016 Rio Games, as Brazil emphatically made it to the gold-medal match in the men's football competition.Neymar led the team to a 6-0 demolition of Honduras in the semi-final on Wednesday.The hosts will now meet Germany in the race for gold in Saturday's final after the European side dispatched Nigeria.Kenya continued their long-term dominance of world steeplechasing asConseslus Kipruto won the 3000-metre event,dethroning legendary compatriot Ezekiel Kemboi in the process in a new Olympic record time.There was mixed doubles success for Indonesia in the badminton event asAhmad Tontowi and Liliyana Natsir scooped the gold. The pairhammered Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying ofMalaysia, denying the country their first Olympic gold medal in 52 years.Kazakhstan also witnessed medal success as boxerDaniyar Yeleussinov defeatedShakhram Giyasov ofUzbekistan in the men's welter 69 kilogram class.Yeleussinov earned a unanimous points decision on his way to the gold.Here's the latest medal count during Wednesday's events:Wednesday RecapBrazil stand on the brink of winning their first-ever Olympic gold medal in football as their men's team thrashed Honduras to reach the final.Neymar was inspirational as he grabbed a brace, with the Brazilian machine at its artistic best at the Maracana Stadium.The Barcelona star had the ball in the net within the first minute of play as Honduras' defence collapsed like a pack of cards.Two strikes by new Manchester City captureGabriel Jesus gave his country a 3-0 lead at half-time, but it wasn't to be the end of the action.A fourth fromMarquinhos put the result to bed, andLuan added salt to the wound with an easy fifth after a great passing move.It was left to Neymar to step up to take a last-gasp penalty to complete the rout as the Brazilians charged to the gold-medal contest on home soil.There was a passing of the torch in the3000-metre steeplechase asKipruto became the king of the athletics event at the expense of veteranKemboi.Kipruto played second fiddle to the legendary Kemboi at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships but gained his revenge inRio de Janeiroas he claimed the gold in a new Olympic record.TheUnited States' Evan Jager was pinned to the eventual champion at the bell, butKipruto found an extra gear and made his dash for glory.Jager took the silver in a season's best, butKemboi was stripped of the bronze for stepping outside of the track, leading to a disqualification.Kemboi announced his retirement after the race after a glorious career at the highest level.In other news,GreatBritain'sMo Farah qualified from the first 5000 metres heat but only after a surviving a last-lap scare.Farah almost fell after Hassan Mead caught his foot but managed to stay upright. The 33-year-old is unbeaten at major events in the 5000 metres and 10,000 metres since 2011 and retains hope of an Olympic "double-double."Brazil will experience an emotional final against Germany after being humiliated by the Europeans in the 2014 World Cup.Neymar will be central to the plans of revenge as the hosts take a shot at football redemption against the ruthless German machine.
