2016 NFL Free Agents: Rumors, Predictions for Stephen Tulloch and Will Beatty

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 18 Aug 2016

Though the attention thrown at NFL training camps might suggest otherwise, free agency is alive and well with a few bidding wars going on and veterans still looking for the right fit. Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy is still the biggest name available on the market, though there isn't much new in that regard other than team executive vice-president Stephen Jones telling Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk the team has "moved on."That's about the extent of the news around Hardy at the moment, but free-agent rumors don't start and end with the embattled defensive end.In fact, the latest pertains to quality players at linebacker and along the offensive line. Let's take a look. Will Beatty a Hot CommodityIt seemed only a matter of time before the market for offensive tackle Will Beatty heated up.Beatty, 31, missed all of 2015 with an injury but when healthy is a quality backup, if not starter.According to Newsday's Tom Rock, Beatty visited with the Carolina Panthers Wednesday. On the heels of this revelation, Fox Sports' Mike Jurecki noted the Arizona Cardinals also have an interest, and the Jacksonville Jaguars have already offered the veteran a contract:Beatty might be holding out for a starting gig, but it's not looking hot. Carolina has a quality duo of Michael Oher and Mike Remmers on the edges, while Jacksonville has Kelvin Beachum and Jermey Parnell. Arizona has Jared Veldheer and D.J. Humphries.Rock had earlier provided an interesting note about the Philadelphia Eagles:Realistically, Carolina seems like the best option for Beatty. He'll get a chance to work himself back into pro shape and form with a surefire contender where he's wanted. Not only that, he'll be the first man off the bench should an injury arise, not to mention he might always stand a chance at playing on the interior of the line.Prediction: Beatty signs with the PanthersThe Market for Stephen TullochStephen Tulloch is the winner of the aforementioned linebacker sweepstakes, in a sense, with teams starting to allegedly throw interest his way.Tulloch is now 31 years old and a respected veteran around the league after carving out a nice career for himself. The Tennessee Titans made him a fourth-round pick in 2006, and he spent five seasons with the team before putting in five more with the Detroit Lions.According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, it's the AFC that might come calling again:Free agent middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch, a Miami Killian alum and a longtime NFL starter for Tennessee and Detroit, is on the Dolphins radar. Miami wanted to bring him in for a workout recently, but the Dolphins made clear they were looking to add a linebacker on a low-money deal and Tulloch is waiting for something better than that.Is there a team out there willing to give Tulloch what he wants' Maybe. ESPN's Adam Schefter noted in the first week of August Tulloch had something going on with the Eagles:This obviously has yet to come to fruition, so either the talks have hit a snag or one side isn't getting what it wants out of the potential partnership.Tulloch has plenty of viability as a two-down enforcer, though the fact he's gone this far into training camp without a deal suggests he might have to temper expectations. In doing so, he'll be able to continue his career one season removed from recording 107 combined tackles.Given the want to still play football, Tulloch might have to settle for less to latch on with Miami. It's not a bad spot by any means, as he could work into the linebacking corps on a rotational basis. The Dolphins would be happy to have him reinforcing a unit led by Kiko Alonso.Prediction: Tulloch signs with the DolphinsStats are courtesy ofNFL.comand accurateas of Tuesday.
