Mikel: Well Give Nigeria A Medal

Though there will be no repeat of the Nigeria football teams 1996 Atlanta heroics at the ongoing 2016 Rio Games, but Dream Team V1 captain, John Obi Mikel insisted that they are still determined to pick up a medal.The Dream Team went down 2-0 against Germany in the semi-final on Wednesday with Lukas Klostermanns ninth minute goal and Nils Petersens 89th minute strike putting the Europeans into the gold medal match, where they will face hosts Brazil. It means captain John Obi Mikels side wont emulate the 1996 team that won gold at the Atlanta Games.After impressing in their opening two games and the quarter-final win over Denmark, Nigeria never really got going in the semi-final.I wanted to win the gold medal, but the fact that we did not play well. The Germans played well, Chelsea midfielder Mikel said.Nigeria still have one game left as they will take on Honduras in the bronze medal match on Saturday, and Mikel says the team are determined to give the West African country their first medal of the 2016 Olympics.We are professionals, we can now claim third place. We want to give a medal to Nigeria.
