"Five Things I Would Learn To Do If I Was Jobless"

Published by Nairaland on Fri, 19 Aug 2016

We can add if from a humble background The major craze in this clime and time is social media ,e-retailers and othr great things on the world wide web. So first thing: 1 LEARN HOW TO BE A DIGITAL MARKETER: Who is that: someone that understands e-mail marketing, social media advertising, search engine optimization, google analytics and a fairly good idea abt web designs. In short the guy that can help u get buzz on ur product or service offered online. Information to be this person is all online and as it is.. we all live online anyway;so any youth can turn that wasted time into a gold mine. This is a skill corporates re willing 2 pay correct money 4. Brick and mortar company trying to figure out ways to have a big presence online and have a return on investment on money spent online. 2 LEARN TO BE AN AFFILIATE MARKETER: With the inroad jumia, konga, deal dey etc have made, this is a viable way of trying to earn some dough. This could take some time-6 months to 1 year to get the hang of it and start profiting. The input for these is time and propably money for a domain name: 30$. 3. LEARN TO BE A PROGRAMMER : A damn good programmer won't starve. Like with all skill set,it takes good time to be a bad ass one. All u need is just the 'can do spirit',a mind that is ready to learn- open minded- and make sure it is what u want. If working the back-end seems too much u can learn designing a user interface xml(uix). We now have schools whereby they re ready to pay you while learning to be a better programmer: Andela . Though the barrier of entry is quite high. A good programmer can go on to be anything he wants to be; think about the googles, oracles, microsoft, apple, facebook, nairaland e.t.c . The whole world is your oyster: u can venture into any fields and try to disrupt it by creating unique solutions to myriads of problem in Nigeria. U might want to look up this start-ups : paystack, hotels.ng, kangpe doctors, andela, prepclass, traclist, flutterwave, drinks.ng, paga and many more. They are all trying to solve problems with technology and monetizing it . really hope I get to programme 2 some extent one day .4 Agriculture This is the big Elephant in the room. We need cheaper tomatoes, bags of rice are expensive, yam is expensive, even sweet potato is now costly ,garri is not that accesible to the poor man anymore; Without mentioning addendums : small eggs, xpensive fish and meat; though u can have a meal without these anyway. All these points to one thing : scarcity. We import almost everything, youths re in urban centres looking for white collar jobs with funny certificates. About time to choose a field in agriculture and be a specialist in it :from the quick wins(low hanging fruits) of fish farming to snail rearing, poultry farming ,pig farming ,best ways of growing subsistence crops - defer cash crops technique till later Find something to do across the value chain of agric: learn how to harvest rice-operating the thresher, processing-handling the mill, storage-learn abt how to go about storing cereals in silos. Be a specialist and try to find ways of marketing these skills, even if it involves going to co-operative farmers in your village. One thing is sure, a 21st century farmer will not go hungry.5 Blogging Everybody is a blogger nowadays, but trust me there is still room for curation of quality contents on your blog. Find a great niche that is interesting to you and write or find great stories around it. Curating good contents is not easy neither is creating it,reason why a lot of blogs takes the easy way out and lifts off stories off one another. The downside to these is that it is a thankless job,and for a hungry man,the incubation period-using linda as an example:4-5 years - b4 it can be monetized might just be too long. You can add to that : finding keywords that would drive traffic to your blog, might involve a jobless man finding dollars for facebook, twitter, instagram, google ads . But in all these u become a better person and an authority in that field and u never know who or when the expertise would be needed. A rich kid would easily crack blogging than a jobless dude. These bring me to jobs that would work well for a jobless dude with buffer: photography-those cameras re quite expensive, same thing with being a dj-ask dj cuppy(otedola),xclusive (alakija) ,obi (ajuonuma) ,case ( dehinde fernandez grandson). U can try cracking being a chef. All these skills re in high demand. A jobless dude won't be able to afford money 4 studio sessions,or the xpenses for transportation and looking good for an audition: hazards of trying to be an entertainer. This list is not exhaustive, about time we stop mopping about lack of jobs and find something for our hands to do. God bless.
