Successful Adjustment Advice....Tested And Proven!

Published by Huffington Post on Fri, 19 Aug 2016

Many Veterans have feelings of being "unarmed" while or after transitioning from the Military. This can be in various ways such as not:having a weapon (depending on job in military)having a solid plan for their futurehaving the answers they feel they need to move forwardhaving the right support for issues they are experiencing, whether they be mental or physicalhaving the proper support structurehaving the proper level of education or traininghaving the job security or benefitsAs you can see there is any number of areas that can lead a transitioning Veteran to feeling "unarmed". These all are important to be addressed and understood so that the Veteran can move forward in a productive and fulfilling manner.Advice given by some very successful Veterans that have transitioned from the military includes the following:Research and preparation in advance of transition is criticalClearly define your Vision for the future you wantCreate actionable milestones to work towardConnect with various Veteran based groupsFind a fellow Veteran to partner with that has or is going through the same transitionTake advantage of the GI Bill to get the proper level of education you may needThe actions above will help create that environment that the Veteran is used to having. Overtime this will ease those feelings of being "unarmed". Preparation, persistence and resilience are very important to overcome these feelings. Keep in mind this is not something you have not experienced in some shape or form at your different stages in the military. You have been trained to handle uncertainty and to think of creative solutions that will solve the problem at hand. Go back to your military roots of training and leadership to put these current challenges into focus. The same approaches you have always used will work very well. There are many programs and organizations available that can assist in each of the areas that you may be struggling with. In the time I've been Coaching transitioning Veterans I have been astounded by the number of organizations and different approaches to support that are available. Know you are not the first or last to experience these challenges and that support is available.Landmark Life Coaching's Mission is to honorably and respectfully serve courageous groundbreakers and transitioning veterans to persevere in defining and executing their future by providing an atmosphere of comradery and trust that honors their dedication and commitment.
