Wyndham Championship 2016: Friday Leaderboard Scores and Highlights

Published by Bleacher Report on Sat, 20 Aug 2016

Day 2 of the Wyndham Championship belonged to Si Woo Kim, who jumped up 40 spots to take the lead into the weekend after shooting a 60 on Friday to bring his 36-hole score to 12 under par.Kim had a solid Thursday, shooting a 68, but he was far off the leaderboard and didn't look like a factor. All that changed 24 hours later with a brilliant performance that included six birdies on the back nine.Lucas Glover did not want to stay out of the spotlight, either, finishing the second round with a 61to move intoa tie for second place at 10 under overall. Here's the leaderboard from Sedgefield Country Club after the second round:Kim seemingly could not miss anything Friday. He had eight birdies, one eagle and no bogeys and came within inches of nailing a 50-foot putt on his final hole that would have given him a 59.The PGA Tour provided video footage of Kim's nearly historic putt:Instead, Kim was forced to settle for a 60 after making his next putt. He put himself in a bad position on the ninth greenhe started the round on the back ninewhen his tee shot went into the rough on the left side of the fairway.PGA Tour Media noted Kim's score put him in the record books:ESPN.com's Jason Sobel humorously connected Kim's round with Jim Furyk's 58 from two weeks ago:Golf may not be that easy, but there is something in the water right now. The 21-year-old Kim has yet to win on the PGA Tour, though he nearly won the Barbasol Championship in July before losing toAaron Baddeleyin a playoff.Glover also flirted with a 59, needing to birdie the 18th hole to reach the hallowed number. Much like Kim, his tee shot on the final hole went into the rough to the left of the fairway. He did put his next shot onto the green but was left with a 35-foot birdie putt that stopped short of the hole.Unfortunately, after being so good throughout the round, Glover pushed his par putt to the right of the hole, picking up his only bogey of the day. While Glover will not complain about finishing the second round with a 61, Golf Channel tweeted out an image from his birdie attempt on the 17th hole that is also going to leave a bad taste in his mouth:Instead of dwelling on those few negative moments, though, the PGA Tour provided video footage of Glover's final birdie Friday:Glover finished with 10 birdies to post his best round of the year. His previous low round was a 65 in January.Three players are tied with Glover at 10 under par, including Mr. 58, Jim Furyk. The news was not all good for the 46-year-old, who missed his first green of the day. It was the first time in 39 holes that he had failed to hit a green in regulation.Rafael Cabrera-Bello, who was the first-round leader, had another solid performance Friday. He wasn't able to match his 63 from Thursday, but his 68 put him at nine under par and within reach of Kim.There weren't a lot of highlights for Cabrera-Bello on Friday, but his eagle on No. 15 was a thing of beauty. The PGA Tour had the highlight:A bogey on the 18th hole knocked Cabrera-Bello down a peg before the weekend, but being in the mix going into moving day is a good spot.Kim will have to fight off stiff challenges from Cabrera-Bello, Glover, Furyk, Kevin Na and Hideki Matsuyama to earn his first PGA Tour win, but the tournament is set up perfectly for him to do just that after his historic performance Friday.
