Nasarawa APC Condemns Planned Protest By NLC

Published by Leadership on Sat, 20 Aug 2016

It was a series of knocks and condemnation for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over their planned protest in Nasarawa State, scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd August, 2016 to register their displeasure over the reported death of two workers, allegedly killed by security men on July 29 when the NLC Leadership led by its president, Ayuba Wabba visited to negotiate workers salaries with government.Mr Phillip Shekwo, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in a press briefing in Lafia yesterday sympathised with the NLC over the death of the two workers, just as he described the planned nationwide protest by NLC as a disappointment and should not be allowed to take place as a mark of respect for the dead workers. He said that the party vehemently opposed the planned protest to hold in the state because it would further exacerbate the fragile situation in the state rather than solving it.The labour protest is one too many. We view the planned protests as one borne out of mischief and in bad faith as it is intended to portray the laudable achievements of the APC administration in bad light he stated.According to the APC chairman, the party is aware that the NLC had petitioned the NHRC as well as the Nigeria Police Force, both institutions whom, according to him had kick-started investigations on how the workers died.
