LG Poll: LP Sues Ogun Electoral Body

The Ogun state chapter of Labour Party (LP) yesterday disclosed that it had gone to court to challenge the non recognition of the Party by the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, ahead of its planned local government poll slated for October 8.The party also used the occasion to declare its support for the anti-corruption stance of the present administration in the country, accusing the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of having been largely responsible for the nations economic woed.The acting state chairman, Arabambi Abayomi Oluwafemi at a news conference in Abeokuta, accused the electoral body of preventing the party from participating in the forthcoming poll by not collecting the necessary documents before the end of the deadline.In the originating summons in suit no. M/215/2016 before an Ogun State High Court, the quartet of Comr. Abayomi Arabsmbi Oluwafemi (state chairman), Comr. Oginni Olaposi Sunday, Comr. Aroyeun Sabur Sina and Labour Party as claimants sought to determine: Whether or not, by section 221 relevant sections of Ogun state and the Election Time Table the proposed local government election for 8th October, can validly hold without given form to all interested candidates/parties.
