Published by Business Insider on Sat, 20 Aug 2016

SAN DIEGO (AP) ' Ryan Schimpf is making the most of his rookie campaign.Schimpf tied the score with a two-run homer in the eighth inning, then hit a winning three-run shot in the 10th to lift the San Diego Padres to a 7-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night.Yangervis Solarte drew a one-out walk from Patrick Corbin (4-13) in the 10th before Alex Dickerson singled. Schimpf followed with his game-winner on the first pitch for his third multi-homer game of the season."It feels good to do something to help us win," Schimpf said. "Just like I do every at bat. Just trying to get a good pitch to drive, and stay aggressive, and that's what I did. Just happened on the first pitch. I'm just going up there trying to drive a ball every time.Schimpf's shot in the eighth off Enrique Burgos tied the score 4-4."You don't see many guys, period, at any level with that kind of pop," Padres manager Andy Green said. "It was impressive. It was a big hit for us, obviously the last one was too. It was fun to watch."Arizona loaded the bases in the top of the 10th against Kevin Quackenbush (7-4), but Jake Lamb struck out to end the threat.Jean Segura had five hits and drove in two runs for the Diamondbacks."It was really disappointing and really frustrating," Segura said. "It is something that I just can't explain to lose like that."Zack Grienke started for Arizona and allowed two runs and seven hits over seven innings, rebounding from giving up nine runs in his previous start against the Boston Red Sox. Grienke struck out eight and walked two."I was getting hit pretty good in that second and third inning, but made better pitches the rest of the way," Grienke said. "We played a really good game, but it didn't play out. It was a well-played game. I think we'll win most of them if we play like that."Arizona got its first run in the second when Yasmany Tomas led off with a double against Jarred Cosart and scored on a single by Chris Owings.Segura helped Arizona get the lead in the seventh after stealing third base and scoring on a throwing error by Derek Norris.San Diego answered in the bottom of the inning with a double by Schimpf and single by Christian Bethancourt.Cosart allowed one run and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out seven.TRAINER'S ROOMDiamondbacks: CF AJ Pollack (elbow) will continue a rehab assignment in Triple-A Reno on Saturday after playing in a game with Single-A Visalia on Thursday.UP NEXTDiamondbacks: LHP Robbie Ray (6-11, 4.47) will take the mound for Arizona following a solid start last time out in which he earned the win by pitching five innings and allowing one run.Padres: LHP Clayton Richard (0-1, 4.26) makes his second start since returning to San Diego.
