Fish Farmers Allege N3.5m Loss To External Attackers In Delta

Fish Farmers of the United Ufuoma Farmers Association in Ekpan Community, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, yesterday sought Federal and State Governments aid to curb the menace of hoodlums continued attack on them.Noting that over N3.5million had been lost to the hoodlums in the last three weeks, the President of the Association, Mr. Ihesinaulo John in arelease he signed and issued, a copy made available to our reporter, averred that each time the hoodlums strike they allegedly collect both fish and cash sales, stating that in most cases, the hoodlums allegedly beat up some of the farmers who resist given them fish and cash.Part of the statement reads: The hoodlums sometimes come with guns and at gun point, rob our farmers, the issue is now critical that some of our farmers who borrowed money now find it difficult to pay back their loans.Stating further, Mr. Ihesinaulo John who claimed that several calls to the State Government, traditional ruler and law enforcement agency to come to their aid had met a brick wall, expressed displeasure over Ekpan Youths restiveness, especially as they allegedly aid external attackers to their fish farms.The statement, however, called on President Mohammed Buhari, the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to rescue the farmers in the hands of the rampaging hoodlums who allegedly had destroyed their sources of livelihood.Ekpan community has been enjoying the farm, it has given scholarship to two pupils and two students which were still ongoing, we are tied and sick of our farm destruction, the statement added.In another development, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahimhas challenged Deltans to expose criminals in their midst via giving vital information that would lead to their arrest by the police.
