Ondo APC: I Will Not Be Voting In PrimariesState Chairman

Published by Leadership on Tue, 23 Aug 2016

The state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr. Issac Kekemeke on Tuesday gave reasons into why he will not be voting in the forthcoming primaries to produce the gubernatorial flagbearer of the party slated for this weekend. He revealed that it was his intention to be able to speak frankly with all the contestants without fear or favour hence, his decision not to vote for anybody by virtue of his position as the chairman of the party. However, Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, Ade Adetimilehin who is opposed to Kekemeke said the meeting warned the state chairman not to use the party machinery to endorse any aspirant because he has been doing that. As regards his removal, the NWC assured that they would look into it. Nobody asked us to go back to the status quo. The national body said they will look into the vote of no confidence passed on Mr Kekemeke.Recall that the APC in Ondo state had been enmeshed in crisis following allegations that a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the the state chairman had endorsed one of the aspirants with the intention of imposing him on the party.Kekemeke said this after a meeting between the national leadership of the party led by the Deputy National Chairman, Sen. Lawal Shuaibu and leadership of the Ondo state APC at the national secretariat in Abuja, yesterday.Kekemeke said I have said repeatedly that I do not prefer any of the aspirants but I have also no power to deny anyone the constitutional right to prefer any aspirant. All I know is that I dont have a preference, I have a vote. In the interest of perception, I did announce to the state working committee over two months ago that I was not going to vote. I cannot stop anyone from exercising his constitutional and political right to express preference. I am forbidden from doing so because I am the state chair for the party and I do so, so as to help the party, unite the party with the perception issues, so that after the primaries, I will be in a position to talk to all the aspirants so that we can work together. Of course I am aware that there are people who perceive that I have preference, that is in their world of imagination. But I want to assure people that I do not have any preferred aspirant. My preferred aspirant is the aspirant that is able to garner the majority of votes, the aspirant that is able to garner the total endorsements, highest endorsements, and like I use to say it, when endorsement is contained in an endorsement, mobilisation with mobilisation, influence with influence, vision with vision, ability with ability, the people will speak and as soon as over 3,000 delegates speaks, that becomes my preferred aspirant and he becomes the candidate of the party.
