Facebook Comments: Mixed Reactions Trails PMBs Economic Blueprint

Published by Leadership on Thu, 25 Aug 2016

Nigerianson Wednesdayexpressed mixed reactions on social media about President Muhammadu Buharis economic policies and the impact it is making on the economy of the country. The reactions followed a LEADERSHIP Facebook Page post which reads, Since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, Nigerias economic indicators have mostly gone negative and life seemingly become harder for most people. Many have regretted voting him but a lot of people argued it would have been worse had former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan continued. What is your take objectively'The post which was meant to engage teeming followers of LEADERSHIP on Facebook on their opinions, witnessed a depth of divided comments, while some were full of praises for President Buhari, others expressed regrets that they voted for him, citing the prevailing economic recession that has compelled many Nigerians to face untold hardship. Those with the president believed that the economy would have been worse by now if not for his emergence but others sharply disagreed saying they faired better under the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan.A Facebook user, Geoffrey Theophilus Nickafsaid, I dont believe the economy would have been worst, but something will eventually happen to upturn corruption. With our growth rate maintained, Agriculture was already booming, investors coming in, we will be better off than where we are today. But I am happy Buhari is the president today, if not many Nigerians would have been thinking that one naira should be equal to one dollar, that all those campaign promises of the APC would have been in place. So next time, when someone makes a promise, people ought to think about the possibilities of fulfilling such promises. In his reaction, Istifanus Yohannanoted that the immediate past administration may have failed in some ways, but this present administration is the worst ever experienced so far. No any meaningful impact has been made so far, all they do is to tell lies each and every day. The economy has been bastardised: the currency has been reduced to nothing, prices of goods and essential commodities are out of the reach of the common man and it doesnt seem to get better any moment. The issue of defeating Boko Haram is just another typical lie which is the style of this government, as we still keep hearing news everyday of Boko Haram killing and abducting people in the North East. Nepotism has become the order of the day in this administration. Im for nobody and for everybodyso he said the day he was being sworn into office, but when he started his appointments and was asked why it was one sided' They are my own and I trust them was his reply. Is that how to be for everybody' This administration is full of sentiments and impunity, people have been killed in parts of the northern states without apprehension, specifically Christians citing religion as the reason of their murder, what has the government done about it' It happened in Kano, Aabuja, Kaduna and recently in Zamfara, nobody has been apprehended or prosecutedwhat about those girls forcefully being abducted, married and converted' Nothing! How about the disobedience of constituted authority, where the executive adamantly refused to obey court injunctions. Or should I talk about their so-called fight against corruption' How I wish they are really sincere about it as all Nigerians know it exists and it is the greatest bane of this country, but when you tell me that all PDP members are corrupt while all APC members (including those who were key and pioneer members of the PDP for more than ten years) are not, then, I know you dont mean to fight corruption in earnest. I can go on and on and wont still exhaust the failure of this administration, so in a nutshell; I do believe that this administration is a regrettable one, and I do not believe the situation would have been worse had the immediate past administration continued.Dudu Medularon his part reacted that one thing about Nigerian government is that, things get worse every year. Ive never seen a year where people say that things are good. Its always worse. And things will never change until we change our self.!Mohammed Inuwa Awwal said,While the previous administration accumulated surplus funds from the proceeds realized from sales of crude oil and internally generated revenues from Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Inland Revenue Services among others unfortunately looted all withoutmaking provisions for reserve for future contingency, even in our secondary schools Fundamental of Economics we learned that Y= C+S + I (where Y=Income, C=Consumption, S=Saving, and I=Investment) i.e Income=Consumption, Saving and Investment, therefore, this entails that if you realize money from your own business or salaries and wages as a rational human being you are expected to consume some, save some and invest some portion of the money for your own good, unfortunately the case of the previous administration was different, they left us with nothing and now expecting the present administration to perform magical changes which is actually NOT possible, lets be realistic, justify our conscience and forget about sentiment.Abubakar S GhajiFor every government to be successful there must be SECURITY and good GOVERNANCE. Since they surrender their life and property to government and the government promise to protect them in return. Our past government failed to do that.James YakubuI have taken the pains of going through all the comments here. Surely we Nigerians have a very big problem. And until we learn to speak straight from our hearts, we will never get there. From military to our presidents under democracy no one left any reasonable amount in the treasury before they left. Yet the succeeding governments would put things in order and forge ahead. Obasanjo/Atiku sold almost all the government businesses to themselves and this country naked, yet Yaradua managed to mobilized resources and fix the economy. Buhari should look inwards and stop all this Shadow chasing. People are really suffering. Buhari should prevail on governors to pay workers there salaries and entitlements. There s enough money in any state of the federation to pay salaries and do projects. All these lies of no money should stop.
