Ndamukong Suh Injury: Updates on Dolphins Star's Ankle and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Fri, 26 Aug 2016

Miami Dolphins defensive tackleNdamukong Suhsuffered an ankle injuryduring Thursday's preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.Continue for updates.Suh Leaves GameThursday, Aug. 25Per Omar Kelly of theSouth Florida Sun-Sentinel, Suh suffered the injury in the first half against the Falcons.Chris Perkins of theSouth Florida Sun-Sentinelreported Suh returned to the sideline in street clothes later in the contest. According toKelly,Suh had a mild limp.Head coach Adam Gase said Suh was "ok," per Armando Salguero of theMiami Herald.Outside of J.J. Watt, Suh is arguably the most dominant defensive lineman in the NFL. In his first six years in the league he accumulated an impressive 42 sacks and 47 stuffs from his defensive tackle position.Suh has had his issues in the past, from off-the-field incidents to dirty play on the field that have led to a poor reputation with many players and fans. But in 2014 and 2015, he generally kept his nose clean and was a dominant force, though there was the perception that Suh wasn't dominant and didn't live up to the giant contract he signed.Sam Monsonof Pro Football Focus, however, ranked him as the 27th-best player in the league, noting the following:Ndamukong Suh received a lot of criticism in his first season in Miami, but actually played extremely wellprobably the best football we have seen in his career. However, itprobably wasnt well enough to justify the mind-bending contract the Dolphins handed him the preceding offseason, but that is a failing of the front office, not of Suh. He notched six sacks, 13 knockdowns, and 60 total defensive pressures, as well as five batted passes, and was used all over the line by Miami, where he was a genuinely destructive player. As such, he deserves his place this high in the Top 101, because the only real negatives to his play were the ludicrous 18 penalties, and the fact that his contract is bordering absurdity. In Miami, he's paired with Cameron Wake to give the team a dynamic duo on the line. While Miami had its struggles early in 2015, it played much better after the transition to interim head coach Dan Campbell and will be looking forward to a fresh start with Gase at the helm.Suh's loss is a major detriment to the team's postseason aspirations, however. The team does have pretty solid depth, with Jordan Phillips needing to now step up in a big way in Suh's stead, though Miami will have a tough time making the playoffs if Suh is out for the long term.
