Dakota Prukop Named Oregon's Starting QB over Justin Herbert

The Oregon Ducks named Dakota Prukop as their starting quarterback for the 2016 season when they released their Week 1 depth chart Friday:Most fans saw true freshman Justin Herbert, who was tabbed as the backup, as the only threat to Prukop's job.Prukop joined the Ducks in January after transferring from Montana State of the FCS' Big Sky Conference, where he recorded7,347 yards of total offense in his career, the fourth-most in school history.According to Tyson Alger of theOregonian, there was little doubt over Prukop's chances of earning the starting job heading into the 2016 season.His performance throughout the offseason solidified his status with head coach Mark Helfrich, who tried to veil his decision when speaking with Alger before making it official:Dakota has been the most consistent so far and everybody else had kind of had their moments.We'll let it play out. The best guy is going to play. Those guys have to step up and present their best deal. We can work around the most consistent guy and tailor our offense to that guy.Dakota has been the most consistent so far. No doubt about that.As a dual-threat quarterback, Prukop fits the bill for Oregon's fast-paced offense that tries to overwhelm opposing defenses.
