Delta @ 25: Osinbanjo Calls For State Capacity Building

Nigerias Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo yesterday in Asaba, Delta State harped on the need for state capacity building and strong institutions to cushion the effects of Nigerias economic challenges.Professor Osinbanjo who was the special guest at the summit organized by Delta State Government to mark Delta @ 25, in his lecture titled: Governance infrastructure and fundamental attitudinal way, decried ideas that are difficult to execute, stressing that Nigeria must build state capacity to perform her statutory assignments.His words: Government requires to have good quality of people and when the quality of people are seen in places of governance, we have no excuse than to perform, Nigeria had never been short of ideas but the difficulties have been to stay to the plans, we have somehow not been able to finish or start at all, but we must build that state capacity to perform.Emphasizing that the quality of the people hired at the right time was important, Professor Osinbajo explained that the quality of state capacity must depend on the quality of people assigned to perform their duties. Noting that slow pace of justice delivery must be abolished, the Vice President disclosed that without strong institutions there will be low base of the economy, adding, we need to strengthen our institutions, if we are projecting economic base it should be based on trust with good characters to manage the economy.
