Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 06 Sep 2016

Notre Dame Fighting Irish wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. left Sunday's 50-47 loss to the Texas Longhorns and is in the NCAA's concussion protocol, per Matt Fortuna of ESPN.com.Continue for updates.Hunter's Status UnknownMonday, Sept. 5Fortuna noted safety Avery Sebastian is also in the concussion protocol. On Monday, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said it was too early to know if either player will take the field when the Fighting Irish host the Nevada Wolf Pack on Saturday, per Fortuna.Hunter seemed to be in positive spirits Monday:Hunter is the son of five-time Major League Baseball All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner Torii Hunter, who also took to social media in the aftermath of the injury:The younger Hunter left Sunday's game late in the third quarter, when he was hit in the head by Texas defensive back DeShon Elliott while attempting to catch a potential touchdown pass. Fortuna noted the wide receiver "was tended to on the ground for several minutes after the play."Notably, the officials didn't call a penalty or review the play. Kelly said Notre Dame sent video of the play to the ACC's supervisor of officials, who said it probably would have been ruled a targeting penalty had it been reviewed, per Fortuna.Hunter finished the game with four catches for 37 yards and a score. After Hunter tallied 28 catches for 363 yards and two touchdowns last year, the Fighting Irish expected him to take on a larger role this season following the departure of Will Fuller to the NFL.The Notre Dame passing game was productive Sunday. Equanimeous St. Brown recorded 75 yards and two scores, while C.J. Sanders posted 55 yards and a touchdown and Josh Adams added 46 yards and a score.
