Ziggy Ansah Injury: Updates on Lions Star's Ankle and Return

Published by Bleacher Report on Tue, 20 Sep 2016

The Detroit Lions have taken a huge hit on defense, with star pass-rusher Ezekiel Ansah suffering a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's 16-15 loss to the Tennessee Titans, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.Continue for updates. No Timetable Set for Ansah's ReturnMonday, Sept. 19SB Nation's Pride of Detroit noted the Lions are already dealing with significant injury issues two games into the season:Ansah was a solid performer through his first two seasons, racking up 15.5 sacks as he moved toward validating his status as a top-five draft pick in 2013.When the Lions lost Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley last year, Ansah's role on the defensive line became even more important. He finished third in the league with 14.5 sacks in 2015, while no other Detroit player had more than seven, making him the clear leader on the defensive line. The Lions are going through a transition period on offense as they try to replace wide receiver Calvin Johnson's production following his retirement, which puts more pressure on the defense. Keeping Ansah and linebacker DeAndre Levy, who missed 15 games last year, healthy would go a long way toward helping Detroit compete in a division that features the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers.Ansah's ability to pressure the quarterback makes everything else work on Detroit's defense. His absence will force players such as Devin Taylor and Haloti Ngata to increase their performance.
