Cleveland Browns vs. Miami Dolphins Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 22 Sep 2016

Even though they've struggled so mightily for so many years, the Cleveland Browns are 4-1 straight up and 3-1-1 against the spread over their last five meetings with the Miami Dolphins. In a battle of 0-2 teams,Cleveland takes on Miami on Sunday afternoon down at the place now called Hard Rock Stadium.Point spread: The Dolphins opened as seven-point favorites; the total was 42.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark(line updates and matchup report).NFL pick, via Odds Shark computer: 28.0-12.6, Dolphins (NFL picks on every game)Why the Browns can cover the spreadFollowing a poor performance in a season-opening loss at Philadelphia, the Browns did much better last week, albeit in a 25-20 defeat against Baltimore. The Browns bounced out to a 20-0 lead over the Ravens, which gave them an 86.7 percent chance of winning the game, according to website PredictionMachine.com. However, on the key play of the game, they had an extra point blocked and returned for two Baltimore points, which shifted the momentum. On top of that, Browns quarterback Josh McCown suffered a shoulder injury, and while he remained in the game, he couldn't produce any more points. Cleveland then slowly let the game slip away and got no help from the refs, who called a taunting penalty on wide receiver Terrelle Pryor during a last-gasp drive, pushing the Browns back from the Baltimore 10-yard line to the 30.McCownthrew a pick on the next play, dashing Cleveland's hopes of its first victory of the season. On the day, the Browns outgained the Ravens, 387-382, and outrushed Baltimore, 145-80, with 85 of those yards coming on a touchdown bolt by Isaiah Crowell. Why the Dolphins can cover the spreadThe Dolphins opened with a 12-10 loss at Seattle but easily covered as 10-point underdogs. Last week, they fell behind big at New England and rallied to within one score late. However, they came up short in a 31-24 defeat.Miami fell behind 24-0 to the Patriots and trailed 31-3 midway through the third quarter but pulled to within 31-24 with six minutes to go. The Dolphins then reached the New England 29-yard line in the final minute, before a Ryan Tannehill interception on fourth down ended the rally.Tannehill finished with 32 completions in 45 attempts for 387 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions, one of which came in obvious desperation mode. Two weeks ago, the Dolphins led the Seahawks late in the game in Seattle, before giving up the game-deciding score with just 30 seconds to go.Smart pickCleveland had enough problems already, and now it's down to its third-string quarterback, rookie Cody Kessler. Meanwhile, Miami isn't exactly rolling under new head coach Adam Gase but should be able to take care of business against a bad team at home. Give the points to the Dolphins.Betting trendsThe Browns are 4-1 SU in their last five games against the Dolphins. The Browns are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against the Dolphins. The Dolphins are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games as a favorite.
