College Football Scores 2016: Final Results, Box Scores for Week 4 Top 25 Games

Published by Bleacher Report on Sun, 25 Sep 2016

A week after No. 2 Florida State was humbled and knocked off its perch by a hungry, focused and talented Louisville Cardinals team, two more Top 25 teams suffered humiliating defeats in Week 4.The Michigan State Spartans came into their home game and Big Ten opener with Wisconsin ranked as the No. 8 team in the nation. The Spartans had built a huge lead over Notre Dame last week and held on for a key road victory. The 11th-ranked Badgers were anything but impressed. The Badgers rolled into Spartan Stadium and punished the home team by a 30-6 margin.Redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Hornibrook made his first start for the Badgers and gave no indication of his lack of experience. He completed 16 of 26 passes for 195 yards, and he was at his best by completing nine of 12 passes on third-down plays for 136 yards. Six of those third-down completions resulted in first downs. In addition to their offensive success, the Badgers were successful on the defensive side as well. Sojourn Shelton's second-quarter interception led to a Wisconsin touchdown, and safety Leo Musso returned a third-quarter fumble 66 yards for a touchdown.Musso's touchdown may have been the key play of the game. Michigan State was trailing 13-6 early in the second half and was moving the ball. However, running back LJ Scott coughed up the ball after D'Cota Dixon hammered him, and Musso picked it up on the hop and skillfully ran into the end zone. That gave the Badgers control of the game, and they just increased their grip from that point forward. The 12th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs took a 3-0 record into their road game at Ole Miss, but the 23rd-ranked Rebels were anything but cordial hosts. They recorded a 45-14 victory as quarterback Chad Kelly was razor-sharp in completing 18 of 24 passes as he sliced-and-diced the Georgia defense.Georgia coach Kirby Smart thought his team would play with more intensity against the Rebels."You never believe you are going to play like that," Smart told Jason Butt of Macon.com. "I think that we did not respond well when they had success."Stars of the WeekRB Dalvin Cook, Florida StateThe Seminoles bounced back from their Week 3 loss to Louisville with a reassuring 55-35 victory over South Florida. At least it was reassuring from an offensive point of view. While head coach Jimbo Fisher may want to see a lot more from his defense in the coming weeks, he saw Cook have a huge game. The running back found the South Florida defense to his liking, as he carried the ball 28 times for 267 yards and two touchdowns.Cook loves competing against the Bulls, as he ran for 266 yards against them last year. Cook also was a factor as a receiver, as he caught four passes for 62 yards. QB Chad Kelly, Ole MissAfter a painful 48-43 loss to top-ranked Alabama last week, the Ole Miss Rebels flexed their muscles and punished the Georgia Bulldogs.Kelly was on top of his game, as he took advantage of a yielding Georgia defense. He threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns, and he also got the job done on the ground. Kelly carried the ball four times for 53 yards, and he ran for one touchdown. With the three combined TDs, Kelly recorded three TDs in a game for the 12th time in his career. QB Joshua Dobbs, TennesseeThe Tennessee Volunteers have had to absorb multiple gut punches from the Florida Gators. However, the resurgent Vols were not about to let the Gators give them one more vicious bite.Despite falling behind by a 21-0 margin with just over five minutes to play in the second quarter and 21-3 at halftime, the Vols came roaring back and rolled to a 38-28 victory over their long-time tormentors.Dobbs was exceptional in leading the Tennessee attack as he completed 16 of 32 passes for 319 yards with four touchdowns. He also got the job done running the football, as he gained 80 yards on 17 carries and scored one touchdown.Florida had won 11 consecutive games in the rivalry since Tennessee's last win in 2004. Thanks to Dobbs, the Vols don't have to hear about that losing streak any longer.
