Washington Redskins vs. Arizona Cardinals Betting Odds, Analysis, NFL Pick

Published by Bleacher Report on Thu, 01 Dec 2016

The Washington Redskins will be looking to end a three-game winless streak on the road, and maintain their grasp on the second NFC wild card, when they take on the slumping Arizona Cardinals this weekend. The 6-4-1 Redskins are coming off a disappointing 31-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys that dropped them to 0-2-1 straight up in their past three games on the road. However, Washington covered as 5.5-point underdogs against the Cowboys, marking its fourth straight against the spread win and eighth in its past nine outings. The Cardinals' 38-19 loss in Atlanta last weekend dropped them to 1-3-1 SU and winless ATS over their past five games. However, Arizona is unbeaten SU over its past three home dates and an impressive 7-3 SU in its past 10 immediately following a loss. Point spread: The Cardinals opened as 2.5-point favorites; the total was 50.5 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)NFL pick, via Odds Shark computer: 27.6-23.2 Cardinals (NFL picks on every game) Why the Redskins can cover the spreadDespite their struggle to record SU wins on the road, the Redskins maintain one of the NFL's most potent offenses. Washington has averaged over 30 points per game in its past four games, eclipsing 500 total yards in three of those contests. The Redskins have been a steady bet on the road since last season. Washington has covered in six of its past seven while racking up outright victories as a betting underdog on five occasions. The Cardinals have been a consistent disappointment as home betting chalk since midway through the 2015 campaign. Arizona is a respectable 8-4-1 SU over its past 13 but failed to cover in all but three of those matchups. Why the Cardinals can cover the spreadThe Cardinals have played stout defense in recent home dates, surrendering an average of just 10.6 points per game over the past five while holding opponents to seven or fewer points on three occasions.Arizona's pass defense has turned in some strong performances of late, holding opposing passers to 208 or fewer yards in four of its past five. The Cardinals have also surrendered a league-low nine touchdown passes this season. The Cardinals have been a solid bet when favored at home by three or fewer points, going 7-2-1 SU in their past 10 and covering handily in two of their past three. Smart pickIt's a battle of a strong road squad visiting a team that has struggled to pay out on home turf. Arizona has tallied just two SU wins in its past 12 games against Washington, so look for the high-powered Redskins to extend Arizona's woes with an outright victory as road underdogs. Betting trendsThe Redskins are 1-3 ATS in their last four games against the Cardinals. The Redskins are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games on the road against the Cardinals. The Cardinals are 0-5 ATS in their last five games.
